This is a really cute recipe...I ought to scan the pic of the finished product out of this book, they're so pretty! This recipe comes from the 2006 Better Homes and Gardens Christmas Cooking from the Heart :)


Prep: 20 minutes
Bake: 18 minutes per batch
Stand: 45 minutes
Oven: 300*F
Makes: about 90 cookies

Try to keep these little morsels the same size or they may not dry out in the specified time.

3 egg whites
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1/8 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 of a 3-ounce package (about 3 tablespoons) strawberry-flavored gelatin
6 ounces bittersweet chocolate and/or white chocolate, melted (optional)
Sifted powdered sugar (optional)


1. Let egg whites stand in a medium mixing bowl at room temperature for 30 minues. Line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper or foil; set aside.

2. Add vinegar and salt to egg whites. Beat with an electric mixer on high speed until soft peaks form (tips curl). Gradually add sugar and the dry gelatin, beating until stiff peaks form (tips stand straight).

3. Spoon mixture into a pastry bad with a large star tip (at least 1/2-inch opening). Pipe stars, about 1 inch wide and 1 inch tall, onto prepared cookie sheet. Bake in 300* oven for 18 to 20 minutes or until dry but not brown. Turn off oven and let meringues dry in oven for another 15 minutes.

4. Peel meringues from paper or foil and let cool on wire racks. If desired, decorate meringue stars by dipping tops or bottoms in melted chocolate, drizzling chocolate over tops of meringue stars, or sprinkling with powdered sugar. Place on waxed paper until chocolate is set. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.

I started posting again at the CAY forum...it's so good to be back! I love the atmosphere there and the contagious holiday excitement, it's awesome :D I haven't done much else today, Christmas-wise, except listen to a few songs on the Jingle Bell Jukebox. Pretty soon here I'm going to comprise a list of things I want to cook/bake from Thanksgiving to Christmas *looks at monumental collection of recipes...uh oh* Bwahaha, anyway...time for more tea! *Moseys off, grabbing her hoodie because it's deliciously cool here in the house*
